ESX and vCenter Server Installation Guide ESX 4.0 page 62 and ESX and vCenter Server Installation Guide ESX 4.1 page 60 both state that the recommended size for the optional partition of /tmp is 1024MB. Please review the documentation provided by vmware when studying.

Thanks for putting this practice exam together, really appreciated!

That is what I was looking for

“The /boot partition requires how much free space?”
I think there is a typo, it should be 100 MB instead of 1100

I don’t know if it is legal to do this, but I would recommend adding like 2 real questions from the actual exam. I would even put like a star on it to let people know. I missed passing by 2 points, I will obviously retake. However what took me so off guard was how much more elaborate the questions were and how much time it took to read them. Then the time used to think about. When under a time limit going in with a different expectation I was caught off guard and felt like I had to question every thought causing me to run out of time. Knowing everything on your site truly helped me problem solve many questions I had never read but did not prepare me for thinking about all the scenarios and how best to address them. I have always been a bad test taker but I think this would have helped a lot.

This test is a great resource. What are the possibilties of adding more questions?
Thanks for putting this together. Really appreciated…

Thanks Man! This is nice.
Few need correction I think.

Well, I failed. 246 of 300 score.
Only few similar questions from this mock exam.
Super difficult!!

- You have completed VCP vSphere Practice Exam. You scored 81 out of 93. Your final score is 87.10%

Your answer to the following question appears to be incorrect, your answer is 3g , but Vmware’s Best Practices along with other practice exams , says 2g
What is the minimum amount of disk space required for vCenter 4.1 Server?
One question states that vCenter Must belong to a domain, I believe this is wrong as it doesn’t have to belong to a domain.
http://www.simonlong.co.uk Simon Long
You are correct in saying that vCenter doesn’t _have _ to belong to a Domain. VMware recommends it though. And this is exam is based on what VMware say.
People asking to post real questions with stars so “they know” really made me smile. That’s cheating if Simon posted those and if you are using resources with exact questions that come up in the exams THATS ALSO CHEATING.

I really need help! I have failed the exam three times each score progressively worst than the previous one. When I completed the Intro class I took the VCP exam and scored 282. The second time I got 268 and the third time 238. I am doing my due diligence in studying. I have purchased and used the complete TrainSignal VMware course, I purchased and read Scott Lowe’s book “Mastering vSphere, and Eric Siebert book “Maximum vSphere”. Also, printed off and used the VMware technical manuals and I purchased the vSphere Foundation license and built a three host lab. I have broken the subject down into its constituent components i.e. Storage, vSwitch, Features, Monitoring and troubleshooting etc. I am taking notes as read, practice, and listen but it seems the harder I work the worst my score has gotten.
I have purchased “CertifyMe” practice exam CBT and I purchase books on test taking techniques. I am very frustrated and going broke. Any constructive help would be greatly appreciated.

I took my VCP yesterday for the second time, passing w/ a 313. I was using the SLOG’s test engine as one of my metrics, and my VCP score (roughly 73%) was very similar to the scores I was getting on this site. It may be worth noting that I was scoring low 70%’s on SLOG, while I was scoring 80% – 90% on some of the other baseline engine’s I was working with. Keep studying, it’ll all be over soon!

Question may be incorrect, What is the recommend size of the esxconsole.vmdk?
In my 4.1 book it is 800MB Swap partition to 1,600MB.
vpxuser
i believe you are incorrect re: the licensing question.
i have that exact config and it requires 2 CPU licenses
http://www.simonlong.co.uk Simon Long
Hi, I thought VMware license vSphere on a per physical processor basis? How is your licensing done?
In that case the question should be “vCenter SHOULD belong to a domain” instead of “vCenter MUST belong to a domain”, as you can run vCenter without being joined and using local windows accounts to manage
Goeko
That is the WMware recommendation, so wouldn’t the questions be phrased as “as best practice” or “recommended to be” not “MUST” ?
Rob
Simon – test noted that I had this one wrong. I’m pretty sure it was correct, so went back to look at my environment, and it indeed is wrong here on the test. Great mock exam (Although I agree with a couple other people on here) If you take the VMWare mock exam there are about 40% more questions requiring more than one answer. However, this is a free tool provided by you so just for your efforts everyone should be happy. Just think it might be a good idea going forward if you mocked the exam as best as possible, and that’s with providing more challenging scenario questions. Other then that, THANKS TONS for the site. Don’t care what the complainers say, it’s DEFINITELY HELPFUL!!!!! (And for those of you who want EXACT EXAM QUESTIONS why don’t you put a bit more effort behind your studying and hands on, and maybe cheating wont be necessary!!! ..Just my thoughts.. =)
Correct Answer to the below question has the ***** next to it. The answer that your test comes back with has the XXXX next to it. Please change when possible so people have the updated information needed.
Doh! bombed the test today. Now I understand why everyone says to go to the original source materials shown by VMWare. Instead of a month of intense studying, I think I need 3 months–but more intense! Thanks for your help Simon. As said before, this (and VMware’s mock exam) isn’t a study aid but a sampling of the kind of stuff needing learning. Look at this material and think if this is only 10% of the material needing to really understan (not just memorize facts and numbers about)

Good Questions. Thanks for posting this out, for people to study and test their knowledge on the product.
This is definitely useful for everyone to run through, to see if they are ready to take the VCP Certification. – WDS

Hi Simon,
Many thanks for spending time creating/maintaining this site – very helpful indeed – great work!
I just like to highlight this particular question/answer which is correct for ESX Server 3 & VirtualCenter 2 but not necessarily the right answer for ESX 4.x
Referring to my GUI on ESX vCenter 2.5 or vSphere 4.1, none of the answers are right however the closest one would be A (Manual, Partially Automated, Automated) – on both versions I run the automation options are exactly:
Manual, Partially Automated, Fully Automated
What are the Automation Levels on a DRS Cluster?
A-Manual, Partially Automated, Automated
B-Manual, Partially Automatic, Automatic
C-Manual, Semi Automated, Automatic
D-Manual, Semi Automatic, Automatic
Don’t be such a geek, dude. Really who cares about Orchestrators and other marketing crap VM makes you study.

Thanks, realy appreaciated. very helpful

Simon is right in this one. I have just had this question in a mock exam.

The vCenter system MUST belong to a DOMAIN.False
Am I correct…??

vSphere 4.1 Update 1 can now have up to 160 logical CPUs, rather than 128.

This is a great way to help advance VM Admin and get the text book knowledge. Thx

I believe so, vCenter doesnt have to be in a DOMAIN.
AL
The docs say it has too, so it can use MS active Directory for assigning rights to domain users.
You could use local groups on the server though.
