VMware Infrastructure Client 2.5 Console Error

I’ve just witnessed a Infrastructure Client error that i hadn’t seen before. It happen when a single user was trying to view a Virtual Machine using the Console. The error happened when they used either the Console tab or “Open Console” from the menu.

Other client users were not getting the same errors.

Here are the three different messages i received;

Message in Error: Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))

Message in Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Message in Error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

I did read on a VMware Community discussion that this could be due to user rights but after checks against other users without issues we found this not to be the case.

And another discussion talked about copying libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll from C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\2.5 to C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Launcher, this did not resolve the issue either.

With time being a little tight i got the user to uninstall and reinstall the VIC. This fixed the Console issue!

There may be other ways to fix this issue without reinstalling, so if you know of any please feel free to post a comment.
